Cataract Treatment in Central Arkansas

Cataracts are one of the most common age-related eye conditions, and fortunately, they’re also very treatable. At Family Eye Clinic, we provide cataract diagnosis, ongoing management, and co-management for cataract surgery at our locations in Sherwood, Levy (North Little Rock), and Landmark (Little Rock).

During your comprehensive eye exam, our eye doctor will check for early signs of cataracts using the latest diagnostic tools. If you’re diagnosed with cataracts, we’ll monitor their progression and help manage your symptoms with updated prescriptions and lifestyle adjustments until surgery is recommended.

What are cataracts?

A cataract is the clouding of the lens in your eye, and it is typically caused by age-related changes in the proteins within the lens. As cataracts progress, they can blur or dim your vision, making everyday activities like reading, driving, or recognizing faces more difficult.

Common symptoms of cataracts include:

  • Cloudy or blurry vision

  • Trouble seeing at night or in low light

  • Glare or halos around lights

  • Faded or yellowed colors

  • Frequent changes in your glasses prescription

When is cataract surgery necessary?

We typically recommend cataract surgery when the cataract begins to interfere with your daily activities and can no longer be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Surgery is the only way to remove a cataract and restore clear vision. When surgery is necessary, we will refer you to a cataract surgeon in the area and provide follow-up care.

The procedure is safe, quick, and performed on an outpatient basis by a cataract surgeon. The clouded lens is replaced with a clear artificial lens, which may also correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.

YAG laser capsulotomy in Levy

Some patients experience blurry vision again months or even years after cataract surgery due to a condition called posterior capsule opacification, sometimes referred to as a “secondary cataract.” This is a common and treatable condition.

At our Levy location, we offer YAG laser capsulotomy, a quick, painless procedure that uses a laser to create a clear opening in the clouded capsule behind your lens implant. Most patients notice significantly clearer vision within a day.
