Eye Exam in Central Arkansas

At Family Eye Clinic, we provide comprehensive eye exams at all three of our Central Arkansas locations in Sherwood, North Little Rock, and Landmark (South Little Rock).

When most people think of eye exams, they think of updating their prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, comprehensive eye exams do much more than that. They’re also crucial for assessing your overall eye health and detecting early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, often before you notice any symptoms.

What happens during an eye exam

At Family Eye Clinic, we take the time to understand your concerns, assess your vision, and look for potential issues. We use advanced technology to give you a more complete picture of your eye health and spot early signs of conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

Our technology includes:

  • iCare tonometry: a gentle, no air-puff way to check eye pressure (available at all three locations)

  • Optomap digital retinal imaging: captures a wide view of the back of the eye to help detect changes early. In some cases, it can be used as an alternative to dilation (available at all locations)

  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): Provides detailed, cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve to detect conditions like glaucoma and macular degeneration in their early stages

  • Corneal topography: maps the shape of your cornea for precise contact lens fittings and early detection of corneal issues (Sherwood location only)

How often should you get your eyes checked?

Even if you’re not noticing vision changes, regular eye exams are essential for protecting your vision and eye health. Most adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1–2 years1, depending on age, risk factors, and whether they wear glasses or contact lenses.

If you have diabetes, a family history of eye disease, or other health conditions that affect the eyes, you may need more frequent checkups. Our eye doctor will recommend a schedule that’s right for you, so we can catch problems early on and keep your eyes healthy.
